Kennett Point Series
Eight small paintings that explore my long term connection with Kennett River. The original subject matter is the iconic Kennett River point as seen from the beach looking out to sea. Then the reverse, Kennett River as seen from the water. The second panoramic vista of hills and sky a privilege common to those who paddle out the back. Painted together and with a freedom and brevity that I don't usually allow myself, repeated a further three times as adventure, as if in some small way to replicate the countless times that I have been physically immersed in this seascape.
Crossing The River Series
The origin for this series comes from our unique and repeated experience of physically crossing a river. We cross the river on foot, in gumboots and with the aid of crutches, to reach our place on the far side. Inaccessible by vehicle, crossing by foot is the only way in and out. A fine balance between risk and great care is necessary to navigate submerged rocks and varying river flow, focusing on what is visible and not visible beneath our feet. All this close attention to the water and rocks has evolved to become the inspiration for this series of paintings. Looking closely at first for practical necessity and then actively looking again to explore the fascinating and infinite interplay of light, colour, reflexions and movement.
