My newly engaged curiosity in the wonder and complexity of the river and my long held attraction to the dynamic mood of the ocean is the essence of this diverse body of work.
The natural beauty of the Great Ocean Road and the atmospheric allure of Kennet River is once again my focus.
I am very pleased that The Gathering has been selected as a finalist in the Mission to Seafarers Victoria Maritime Art Prize 2023. Judging to take place in late October. As part of the entry I was asked to write fifty words about the painting and this is what I wrote.
A moment of shared experience and sensation amidst the rushing and receding of the encircling shore break. The people are my family, the dog is young and new to the ocean. A commonplace scene but a moment forever etched into our collective memory of the day. The Gathering is inspired by exposure, proximity and familiarity with the wild ocean.
